World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO)

Unlike Fairtrade International, the WFTO does not certify products but rather companies that commit to applying and complying with the principles set out below. The focus is on micro-producers, especially in the handicraft sector.

The 10 Fair Trade Principles

The ten principles are:

  1. Creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers
  2. transparency and accountability
  3. partnership trading practices
  4. payment of fair prices
  5. exclusion of exploitative child labor and forced labor
  6. gender equality, freedom of assembly, no discrimination
  7. ensuring good working conditions
  8. support for the development of competence and knowledge (“capacity building”)
  9. public relations and educational work for fair trade
  10. environmental protection

GEPA and El Puente Germany are certified by WFTO as fair producers and distributors.
