Drum composter: drum-shaped compost container with good mixing of the biomass for rapid composting of biowaste
Bio-waste becomes valuable fertilizer
During composting, organic materials such as fruit and vegetable residues, egg shells and coffee grounds or garden waste are decomposed and converted into nutrient-rich humus, which can then be used as fertiliser in raised beds. There are many different types of compost containers. The material and the size of the compost container is important.
They are made of wood, metal or plastic. It is important that the compost is always well aerated so that the organisms (bacteria, fungi, worms, insects, etc.) that are responsible for the composting process are always supplied with air and water. In the drum composter the mixing is very easy, it was built by students of the university in Kleve within the scope of a student project.
